YouTube is one of the best resources out there for language learners. Creators from all over the world upload tons of videos on just about any topic you can think of.

But as a new learner, finding language immersion content you actually enjoy can be really overwhelming. You’re starting from scratch on a fresh account and need to train the algorithm—not just to show you videos in your target language, but to show you ones you’ll actually want to watch.

The problem is, you don’t know what’s out there yet… or even how to start looking.

Or maybe, you’ve been watching content in your target language for a while, but are tired of the recommendations you’re getting and want to watch something new.

That’s where seeder playlists come in.

(Prefer to watch a video tutorial? Watch Ben explain Seeder playlists in this video.)

Seeder Playlists: Discover Content You Love

Seeder playlists are designed to help “seed” your YouTube account with content from a specific genre in the language you’re learning and help the algorithm understand your likes and dislikes better so it can suggest better content suited to your specific tastes.

To try them out for yourself, you can search for “seeder playlist” on YouTube or try out one of the several playlists we’ve created on YouTube (scroll down to see the full list).

Here’s how to use them to train your algorithm:

  • Pick a playlist
  • Watch the videos on the playlist
  • If you get bored watching a video, stop watching it and move on to the next one
  • If you enjoy a video, like it and subscribe to the creator
  • Repeat for the rest of the playlist

How to Create Your Own Seeder Playlists

Don’t see your language or area of interest on the list? You can make your own seeder playlists! The process is easy. Not only will creating them help you discover new content, but by sharing them, you can help other learners as well!

Here’s how to create your own seeder playlist:

  • Think about a topic you want to create a playlist about (travel, video games, cooking, cars, etc.) and look up words in your target language describing that topic.
  • Search for the topic in your YouTube search bar with a keyword and look for a thumbnail that seems interesting.
  • Click the dots on the video and then select “Save in Playlist”
  • Click “New Playlist”
  • Name it
    • We suggest Language Name Topic Seeder Playlist
    • Ex. Spanish Cooking Seeder Playlist
  • Set the visibility to public.
  • Look for more videos that seem interesting and add them to the playlist

Once you’ve created your playlist, start watching! Skip the videos you’re not into, and like or subscribe to the ones you enjoy. That’s how you train the algorithm to show you more of what you want.
