Refold Korean Vocab Deck

Introduction

Congratulations on starting your Korean language journey! There’s never been a better time to start.

The hardest part of learning a new language is building the initial foundation of comprehension. Once you can understand enough to enjoy native media, the whole learning process becomes much easier, and way more fun.

By the time you finish this deck, you should hear or see a known word in almost every sentence of your immersion.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or you’ve been studying for a while, this deck will help you level up your comprehension so you can start learning directly from Korean media.

How to Study Vocabulary - 3 Key Parts

1. Vocabulary study is just one part of onboarding into a new language. The other two parts are media immersion and grammar study.

2. When you learn a word in this deck, it creates a mental dictionary entry in your brain. Each time you see the word in your immersion, you will add a little bit more information and context into that dictionary entry until you fully understand the word.

3. Grammar study helps you to identify and understand the word in your immersion.

Make sure you are doing all three of these activities to get the most out of this deck.

Deck Design

This deck was built by hand from the ground up to show you the real Korean language the way it’s actually spoken. The frequency list was generated from a collection of kdramas, and the cards are sorted in 1T order so that any example sentences only use language that has already been taught.

The deck is front loaded with concrete nouns to help you build a foundation for the future example sentences. For verbs, rather than teaching the dictionary form, we’ve decided to use 1T example sentences on the front of the card.

We chose these example sentences by analyzing our corpus of kdrama subtitles, and choosing common phrases that use that verb. Our goal is for you to hear each phrase in your immersion exactly as you learned it in your study.

We’ve also included additional information on the back, like the dictionary form of the word, and more information about how it’s used in Korean.
