About the deck
At Refold, we’re focused on teaching you to understand real English, as it’s actually spoken. Unfortunately, English has lots of weird features that make it hard to understand.
What’s a phrasal verb?
You probably already know thousands of words, but have you noticed that simple words can have entirely unexpected meanings?
Sometimes, when you combine two or three words, the meaning can COMPLETELY change. It won’t have anything to do with any of the individual words.
That’s a phrasal verb: when multiple words combine to form a new meaning.
And to make things MORE complicated, each phrasal verb can have TONS of different meanings!
Not sure what we mean? Here’s an example:
Blow: to move air
Up: a direction
Blow up:
- Blow up a bomb
- Blow up a balloon
- My favorite band is blowing up on Spotify
The power of priming
