The Office (US) is a strong show for learning Spanish once you are past the basics. Its Latin American Spanish dub is everyday workplace Spanish, the episodes run about 22 minutes, and if you have seen it in English you already know the story. Stream it where it carries a Spanish audio track and study each season's vocabulary first.
The Office is one of the most rewatched sitcoms there is, which makes it a surprisingly good Spanish teacher: you already know the story, so all your attention goes to the language. This guide covers why it works, where to stream it in Spanish, and how to get the most out of every episode.
Why The Office works for Spanish learners
It is everyday Spanish. The Office (the US version from 2005) is a mockumentary about the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin, a paper company. Nearly everything people say is about meetings, sales calls, clients, bosses, coworkers, birthdays in the break room and who took whose stapler. That is Spanish you will hear and use, not specialist vocabulary.
You already know what happens. If you have seen the show in English, you know the plot, the characters and most of the jokes. That context does a lot of the work: you can follow a scene even when a few words slip past, and you notice how a line you know by heart comes out in Spanish.
Short episodes and talking heads. Episodes run about 22 minutes, and the talking-head interviews, where one character speaks straight to the camera for a few seconds, are short, clear and made for replaying.
It is not easy, though. People talk fast, talk over each other and joke dry, and a lot of the humor sits in what is not said. That is why it suits learners who are already past the basics.
How hard is the Spanish in The Office?
Harder than a kids' show, easier than it sounds. We analyzed the full Spanish dialogue of the first three seasons to measure it. With each season's vocabulary deck studied, and assuming an intermediate base (the 1000 most common Spanish words plus the words that at least two of our Avatar, Bluey, and Pokémon decks teach):
Season
Lines you can fully follow
Lines with just one unknown word
1
about 73%
another 21%
2
about 76%
another 19%
3
about 74%
another 21%
The Season 2 and 3 figures also assume you studied the earlier season decks. Season 1 is only six episodes and the show is still finding its tone, but it introduces everyone, so it is worth watching.

To switch the audio, open an episode, find the audio or language menu in the player, and pick Spanish (Latin America) where it is offered. If a service only lists "Spanish", it may be the Spain dub, which uses different wording from our decks.
Subtitles
Watch with Spanish subtitles and Spanish audio if your service offers both. One catch: dubs and subtitles are usually translated separately, so the subtitles will not always match what the actors say word for word. Use them as a guide, not a transcript.
If your service has no Spanish subtitles, or you want the subtitle file to study with another tool, here is how to get one: how to download subtitles for free.
How to watch actively
Leaving an episode on in the background helps very little. A few ways to get more out of it:
Intensive listening. Pick one minute (a talking-head interview is ideal) and replay it until you catch every line: first without subtitles, then with Spanish subtitles, then without again. We explain the method in intensive listening.
asbplayer. A free browser extension that shows interactive subtitles over the video and lets you replay each line with a keyboard shortcut. It works with most streaming services once you load a subtitle file.
We made a vocabulary deck for each of the first three seasons of The Office in Spanish. Each one teaches the words in that season that block the most lines, chosen from our analysis of the real Latin American Spanish dialogue, in the sense the episode uses it, with a short, clear example sentence written for learners, Spanish audio and an illustration on every card.
Seasons 1-3: all three decks together, for less than buying them separately
The simplest way to use them: study the words for an episode, then watch it right after. All the decks are in our store for The Office.
Learn the vocabulary of The Office before you watch
Each season deck teaches the words of The Office that actually come up in the episodes, in the sense the show uses them, with audio, images and clear example sentences. You study the words first, then watch the episodes and understand far more of them.

Frequently asked questions
Is The Office good for learning Spanish?
Yes, for an intermediate learner. The Latin American Spanish dub is everyday workplace Spanish, the episodes are short, and many people already know the show in English, which frees their attention for the language. It is fast and full of dry jokes, so it is not a first show.
Where can I watch The Office in Spanish?
As of October 2026: Peacock in the US; Netflix, Disney+ and Sky Go in the UK; Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video in Canada; Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Stan and BINGE in Australia. Spanish audio is not offered everywhere, so check the audio menu, and check JustWatch for your country.
Which Spanish is The Office dubbed in?
The dub most services offer is Latin American Spanish, often labelled Spanish (Latin America). Some services in Europe also carry a Spain Spanish dub. Our decks follow the Latin American dub.
Should I watch with Spanish or English subtitles?
Spanish subtitles with Spanish audio, if your service has them. Be aware that dubbed audio and subtitles are often translated separately, so they will not always match word for word. English subtitles make it too easy to stop listening.
Is this the US version or the UK original?
The US version from 2005, with Steve Carell. The UK original is a different show with different dialogue, so our decks will not match it.
